Redcar Albion

Early days
Redcar Albion are one of the most important and successful post-war clubs in the town’s history. They were formed in 1928 to compete in the newly-formed Teesborough League, which consisted of no fewer than six other Redcar teams. Their red shirts and black shorts held more than a passing resemblance to Redcar teams of old, and although they would not win anything of note for 20 years, their achievements would be counted as some of the most impressive and best remembered.
Although they were a mainstay of local leagues thereafter, their first few decades were not noteworthy. After a brief stint in the South Bank League, they joined the Cleveland League shortly afterwards. Victory in the Stead Cup in 1945 proved to be a springboard to success, with silverware coming almost every year for the next 15 years. They won the Cleveland League double in 1947, with the Stead Cup and Ellis Cup coming to Redcar in the following few seasons. Entry into the Teesside League in the late 1940s would be the beginning of their most successful period.
